you already have the very best resource right next to you!, your boyfriend.
ask him to practice Spanish with you.

furthermore i suggest:
- Spanish music with lyrics (ask boyfriend for translations)
- free Spanish courses online
- spanish movies with english subtitles and other way around
- maybe 1 or 2 full home study courses.

regarding time... really depends on the person. You are in luck having a Spanish speaking boyfriend which can certainly speed up things

all the best

¡Hola hola :)!

Honestly I think the BEST way to learn Spanish[or any language for that matter lol], is to be exposed to that culture, whether it be going to a country where people speak that language or just being around people of that culture frequently. BUT since going to Mexico these days isn't exactly cheap, there are a lot other ways you can learn :)!

These two websites are both VERY helpful. And although you have to sign up for LiveMocha, all you have to do is put in your e-mail etc., you don't pay for it lol. Both websites are FREE:

My personal favorite website is Livemocha.com. There you can help native Spanish speakers with their English and vice versa. You can also do recordings, where you have a reading in front of you and if you have a microphone you can record it and post it on the website and native/fluent speakers will correct you and encourage you. So I REALLY like this website and have used it for a few of the languages I've learned lol.

Another good website is. My favorite part is they have a certain program called Mi Vida Loca[My Crazy Life] where you interact with the characters and learn Spanish while taking a crazy trip through Spain. I LOVE Mi Vida Loca. A lot of fun XD. Lol, and you can also take a language test, which gauges where you are in Spanish whether it be complete beginner to advanced.

For books, I really like which is "Spanish For Dummies"(lol take no offense to the name of the book XD]. They clear up a lot of common problems beginners have with Spanish, and this book EVEN helped my 10 year old cousin[who might as well be classified as ADD, she's ALWAYS on a different thing every two seconds lol] to pick up quite a lot of Spanish. I was so surprised and had to read through it myself. It's very simple with explainations and has lots of practice.

And also, you should try and get your boyfriend to say things to you in Spanish more. Like, instead of saying the freezer, he could say "el congelador". And have some basic conversation(like how are you, what are you doing today, etc. lol) too. You'd be SO surprised at how much it really helps

I can't really say how long it will take you to learn hun. It could be anywhere from 2 months to 6 years depending on how quick of a learner you are, how dedicated you are to learning, how much Spanish you're exposed to, and if you speak other languages. But if I just guessed, I would say maybe around a year or so, IF you are constantly studying. Not like once every month, but more like every single day for an hour or two.

¡Buena suerte con tu español :)!(Good luck with your Spanish :)!)

Anything worth doing is worth doing well. It may not be easy and it won't be quick, but learning Spanish is worth doing.

Have you met his mother? If his mother likes you, she will probably have more time and patience to teach you than your boyfriend will. Also, sign up for a class, and get him to take you to movies in Spanish.

After Chinese and English, Spanish is the third most spoken language in the world today. It is the official language of 21 countries and the second language in many more, such as the U.S.A. In countries like Japan and Brasil, the study of Spanish as a foreign language has been growing at a very fast pace indeed in recent years. Around 400 million people speak Spanish worldwide and the number continues to grow.

The use of Spanish is also growing in the business world. As the Spanish and South American economies continue to grow and develop, along with the Hispanic market in the United States, interest in Spanish and Hispanic is also increasing.

Spanish is the second most used language in international communication, and it is an official language of the United Nations, the European Union, Mercosur and many other important organizations.

ok look since those other idiots have no idea where to begin, i ll start you off. first of all some people pick it up easier than others, i suggest getting online tudors which can help you get the basics, such as alphabet, pronunciation, articles, masculine and feminine terms, ect. that should be the foundation. once you kind of know what your doing, see if theres maybe someone who knows the language so you can practice with them, if you dont use it you'll forget how to speak it so dont waste your time unless your going to use it often. another factor is dialect different areas of spain for example speak different dialects, if your planning on going to mexico then it will be much different than traditional spanish. if you practice all the time, i bet you could be not speaking but fluent in about 4-5 years, meaning your speaking as well as your first language. if you want to be able to just be pretty good and able to communicate then about 2 years. the best language learner i could recommend you is Rosetta Stone I think you might do even better if you get that.
